1. As a West German who lived in the Protestant part of Germany I want to encourage you to remember English history in the light of the Catholic and Spanish Inquisition. England was the country in Europe where Protestants could practice their faith freely and this was neither the case in France, Italy, Spain and Austria-Hungary. This is a reason to be proud to be English. But let us see what Spain has done to the Protestants and all non-Catholics less than 100 years ago when Franco got power after the Spanish Civil War that was crushed by Germany a fake Protestant country. According to Wikipedia the few Protestants who lived in Spain had to leave the country https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protestantism_in_Spain . 2. Again Germany a Protestant nation directly contributed to this by helping Franco. This shows you the English people that German Protestants were under the influence of the Catholic church and this is the case today in the EU. That is why BREXIT is an obligatory decision for any English free person whether Protestant, or any other person. Now lets look on this Sunday in the year 2017 on St Georges Day at the situation in Gibraltar from a Protestant point of view. For those Spanish living in Andalucia next to Gibraltar the only way practice or even to secretly confess their faith was in ?? Gibraltar. As an English person you can be proud of your history and geo-political considerations regarding the Britsih Empire are secondary. I attented school for one year in Andalucia in a school for foreigners and as an adult I visited near-by Gibraltar and learned about the refuge Gibraltar was for Spanish Protestants until Franco died in the year 1976. So we are not talking about 300 years ago and cruelties committed by Catholics in the name of the Inquisistion. We are talking about this in our life-time and sinking the Spanish Armada 400 years ago is just the beginning of the whole history of English freedom and Spanish dictatorship and persecution of Protestants in Europe.
